2nd Quarter

I like technology. I liked learning the different things we could do on our computers. I am not really a computer person but now I know how to do a lot of cool stuff. I liked doing the Microsoft Excel picture. That was probably my favorite project we did. The directions were okay but a little frustrating. To be honest I didn't really like doing the word documents but I learned a lot so that's all that matters. I learned a lot of cool things I could do to the pictures and texts of my project. Obviously I don't like the vocabulary but I thought I'd put it on here anyway. I liked writing on our blog. Our timed typing tests were okay but I didn't really care for them.

The Basketball Game

Ok people so the thing is, I obviously play basketball. If you read my other post it was about how mad I was when our game got canceled. Well the Patosi game also got canceled. So I was mad. But last night we played Desoto (I don't like someone on that team). We smoked them 20-10. I played most of the first half until I got my third foul and coach took me out. I am TERRIBLE at fouling. I went back in for a minute or two in  the fourth quarter and didn't get any more fouls. Desoto is an aggressive team and I'm really glad we beat them. We play Crystal City tonight. It's an away game so we won't have that many festus fans tonight. They beat Desoto. I really want to win. Wish me luck!

US vs. Europe

I think Alain de Botton is right. The US wants everyone to be unique or special and not the same. Europe wants everyone to be the same. I agree with America's belief that we should all be different. My country has no right to tell me who I have to be or what to believe or think. So obviously I agree with America. I think Europe is looking for a way to control their people. I have my rights and I don't think anybody should be able to take that away from me. It's just a matter of time before more conflict between countries happen and we go into an all out war that leads to world war 3. That's what I believe anyway.

How Kelsey Gets Mad

I am mad because my basketball game is canceled. I am very upset and now I have to ride the bus home. We have worked very very very hard for this game and now I have to wait all the way until next week to play. Ugh. I'm pretty much just complaining to myself right now. But I was really excited for this game and now I get let down because of the dang snow. It's not even snowing! I mean come on already. If it is going to snow it better happen fast so I can leave school early. No but guess what. Our pep assembly is today so if school is let out early I won't even get to go to that. I hope there isn't school tomorrow. Because we don't even have a game tomorrow. Ugh.

Narnia

I stare at the seven doors facing me. I know where each one goes but I can only choose one. I step towards the second door and put trace my fingertips along the brass doorknob. I gently pull away and continue walking. I reach the fifth one and I shiver. I grasp this doorknob more firmly and squeeze it until my knuckles are white. This is the door. A cool breeze flows in from the crack under the door. I ever so slowly creak the door open and peek my head in. I step out into the snow and look at the yellow light of the lamppost. Its shines bright in the darkness and I hear the trees whispering in the wind. I have reached Narnia.

The Screaming Eagle

My favorite memory is when I rode the Screaming Eagle for the first time at Six Flags. I had butterflies in my stomach before I even got on the roller coaster. My dad helped me get buckled in and I barely heard the guy say the cart would begin to move as I heard a loud squeak of the ride. We began up the hill and my eyes were closed and I had such a tight grip on the lap bar that my knuckles turned white. We were towards the middle of the cart so I couldn't see in front of us. Then, we started rocketing down the first hill. I tried to scream but my voice wouldn't work. I laughed. My hair was streaming behind me and my dad let out a whoop of glee. I found my voice and did the same. I felt like a bird who just learned how to fly. It was exhilarating.When our ride was over my voice was gone and I turned to my dad, "let's do it again!"

Dear Mrs. Debolt:

I am an athlete. I love softball, basketball and volleyball. I love to read as well. My favorite series is The Hunger Games. Divergent is a close second. I also love to listen to music. I don't have a favorite song. So when I"m at home, I'm either reading on the couch or listening to music while shooting hoops.

Remember when I said that I love sports? Softball would have to be my favorite. I'm a pitcher. I don't play very competitive but I'm planning on trying out in high school. Yes, that means I have to give up volleyball. That will be hard, but unless I start to like volleyball better, then that's my decision.

I am not very good with computers. They sort of confuse me. I am slow at typing, but since I've been in your class I've learned a lot. I only have one computer in my house, and it's a laptop. I'm writing a story on it. I haven't really had time to work on it though, and it's more of a summer project. I love to listen to music, it's my favorite thing to do, so you can probably guess that I have an iPod. That's really the only "technology" that I have. I hope you can teach me more about computers.

I can't believe this. Someone from school? Who? What did they do? I wipe my eyes. I need to help them, whoever they are. I grab my orange backpack, and shove a box of granola bars, 2 water bottles, and a change of clothes into it. I don't know what this is about but if I'm going to be gone for a while I'll need more than this. I close my eyes. I'm shivering now, even though it's 80 degrees in here. I hope they aren't a murderer. I walk to my blue pick up truck and jam my keys in the ignition, what prison? I think. I'll start at the city one. "Hold on." I whisper.

well... I have had lots of great memories thanks to my wonderful family.but the one i remember the most would have to be the time i rode my first roller coaster.it was so fun that day because I was up so high in the air and i have never been that high before. and then there was the fall. The feeling in my stomach was so intense all i could even think about was how much i wanted to do it more.can you imagine this as your first ride..... AMAZING I cant wait to back again for fright fest.

Second Semester Technology

I have learned a lot in Second Semester Technology. I have learned how to cite pictures. We did it so many times I can probably do it like the back of my hand. I have also gotten a lot better at typing. Typing Web really helped. I liked how there was a constant stream of projects ready for us to do. There wasn't one day when I just sat there and didn't do anything. Something I didn't like about this class is that as soon as we stepped in the classroom, if there was a blog post on the week, we had better be ready when the bell rings. Another thing I like about this class is that we had a free blog post every Thursday, so we could finally express ourselves and not have all of these requirements. Mrs. DeBolt is a pretty cool for being able to put up with us rowdy teenagers while she is pregnant.(:

Technology - Wekiva Elementary School

Summer 2013

I'm more excited for this summer than past summers. It is probably because I'm not only going got Chicago, but I'm also going to Texas! This summer is probably going to be a hot one, so the only downer about this summer is that because it is going to be so hot I'm going to get a really bad sun burn. My brother plays select baseball so most of the summer (especially the weekends) are going to be devoted to watching 11 year old boys play baseball all day is gonna be a bit of a downer. Because of my brother's baseball though we get to go to Chicago for about a week! It's really exciting because I have never been to Chicago before and we get to go to Six Flags! Then, after we get home from Chicago my mom has to hurry up and do the laundry, so we can pack for Texas. Part of our family lives down there and my cousin is graduating so we are going to stay down there for about a week as well. Then when we come back from Texas it will be my birthday and I will officially be 14! Yay!

If I were to explain how terrible humanity is in one word it would be: Hitler. Hitler was from Germany and he got the brilliant idea that anybody who was not the same race or religion as him must die. That mainly applied to Jews. He built encampments to "store" them in after his men captured them. There wasn't hardly any food, nothing to drink, their shoes and clothes were taken from them. A lot of the time if you were put into an encampment, you were going to die. You could die of starvation, thirst, being gassed  being shot, and even overworked. Families were often separated. It was very cruel. Eventually Hitler tried taking over other surrounding countries. He even got some other countries leaders to agree and fight with him. He ended up killing thousands of Jews in only a few years!

Being Ditched for Choir

Today is the choir trip to Six Flags! Yay! The only problem is: I'm not in choir and all of my friends are. I have nobody to talk to all day. Even the majority of band is gone because they are in both choir and band. Right this second I am not only the only girl in this class (besides Mrs. DeBolt(; ), but I am also sitting all by myself. Social Studies wasn't that bad because I had Sarah, but now I am gonna have nobody! I am going to be sitting all by myself in writing today too. This is not cool!! All of my friends said they were gonna text me while they were there  so they could still talk to me, but there is one little issue. I can't text in school, so that causes a bit of an issue.

Something Worth Knowing

In school they teach us a lot of different things. The Pythagorean Therom, parts of a frog, the different ways to spell to, and even the different hardships Abraham Lincoln went through in writing the Emancipation Proclamation. Something we don't learn though is how to get out of a sticky situation with your boss or how to tell if a person is safe when they come to your door asking for help. We learn a lot of unnecessary things in school, but what about the things that we really are going to need when we get older. What if a girl wants to be a stay at home mom? There are still things she needs to know in order to fulfill that requirement and it is things we are supposed to be taught.

7 Identical Doors

There are seven identical doors leading to seven completely different places: Narnia, Neverland, Hogwarts, Camelot, Middle Earth, and Westeros. A voice somewhere above me tells me to choose one. I go in front of each door and listen, hoping to get some sort of sound that tells me what lies behind each door. Nothing. I really wanted to go to Hogwarts. That was the one place I knew TONS about and would maybe be able to get by. I noticed that when I stood in front of the middle door I got this feeling in my stomach that I didn't get from the other doors. I went to that door and opened it just a crack and noticed that the other six doors vanished. Well great, now I have to go through this one. I stepped through and was engulfed in a sea of a bunch of kids of different ages in black cloaks and sticks in their hands. Yeah, this is gonna be a little more difficult than I thought.

If I Had a Rewind Button on Life

If I had a rewind button on life I would go back to when I was in kindergarten. In kindergarten it was just me, my mom, my dad, and my brother living with my grandparents in Potosi. My bestfriend was my grandma's dog Lady. My crush was John Smith from Pocahontas. The most drama I ever had in my life was when my grandma ran out of cookies or when I fell down while running through their backyard and scraped my knee. For homework we had coloring worksheets and I was excited to go to school. When I tell people about this particular time in my life they ask me why I loved it so much. My dad worked about an hour away and he drove that distance every morning and every night. My parents, my brother, and I all slept in the same room. My parents on the bed against one wall, me on a mattress on the floor next to that bed, and my brother on a mattress on the floor at our feet. Man, I miss those days.

Niall Horan Before and After Braces

Recently Niall Horan got his braces off. Now don't get me wrong I'm really excited for him, but part of me wishes he hadn't even gotten braces in the first place. Yeah he was getting hate, but everyone has their imperfections and now he is PERFECT!!! I'm really glad that he has a more confident smile now because he is even happier, but before he had braces it made me feel better about having screwed up teeth because he could walk around with such self-confidence. He smiles more, laughs more, sings more,etc. and I really am genually happy for him!! Another downside to him getting his braces off is that there are going to be more "Niall girls." That means more girls are going to be bigger fans of Niall than the rest of One  Direction just because he got his braces off! Ugh, it's such a hard deecision to make! Happy or sad?

Day Off

I deserve a day off school because I have earned it. I have to school for 10 years of my life, so you would think I have earned a day off school?! I get good grades, I come to school everyday, and I never get in trouble. We spend most of our lives in school and a three month break between school years after nine months of sitting in an uncomfortable desk and being bored out of our minds all day is not enough. I don't get why we have to go to school so early either! I mean some people learn better when they get plenty of sleep. If I had day off school I know that's the first thing I'd do!

Most people when they think of Disney they think of Good Luck Charlie and A.N.T. Farm, but when I think of Disney I think of Mickey Mouse or eve Lizzie McGuire and That's So Raven. Those were the good shows. Those were the shows that taught you something like make sure you study for a test and dont lie and things like that. Don't get me wrong I love the new Disney, but I think that we could do a little better. I understand the goal for 99% of TV shows is to entertain, but the shows that kids watch like Disney channel and Nickelodeon could be a little more educational. I don't mean sitting there in front of the TV and teaching shapes and colors, but morals. I just want the old Disney back.

The Best Book I Have Ever Read

The best book I have ever read is Kira-Kira. Kira-Kira is my favorite book because it is about two Japanese sisters who are very close. Their parents moved to America when the older sister was very little. During the story it talks about how the older sister gets a disease (the book did not say what it was called) and how the little sister deals with it. There are times when the older sister is well enough to go outside for a bit, but most of the time she is confined to her bed until one day when she dies. The younger sister goes to her sister's grave everyday after that for three days to take care of the grave. She only goes for three days because she had heard that after someone dies, the spirit is only in the body for three days after that. This book will make you cry though if you and your sister are very close. This book also taught me a little bit about the Japanese culture and that kira-kira means sparkles in Japanese.

William "Miracle" Ivy

William "Miracle" Ivy was a 17 year old boy who passed this weekend. He was my friend. We played soccer together and he eventually became one of my bestfriends. On Friday night he lost control of his car and it rolled and went airborne into a telephone pole. He was in a comma from that night until late Sunday night when he didn't pass a taste and they pulled the plug. He was one of those people who impacted everyone's lives just by talking to them or by sitting by them in class. He was the kind of person who brought a smile to your face just by giving you a hug or saying, 'It will be alright." He went to Northwest High School, so not many people here knew him except one person who played soccer with him as well, but even she wasn't as close to him as I was. She doesn't understand. Everyday I get on Facebook and there are still people posting things on his wall and talking about memories they had with him. William "Miracle" Ivy will be missed.

My Little Sister

My little sister, Sydney, has become one of my bestfriends. Although she is only seven, she can always make me smile when I'm having a bad day. For example, the other day when she got off the bus, the first thing she said was, "Shelby I love you. You know that right?" It absolutely made my day 10x better. She is the kind of little sister who makes me want to pull my hair out at times, but turn right around and just spend all day with her. She is in to the same kind of things I am as well. Music, clothes, hair, tv shoes, movies, games, etc. and it makes it a lot easier being around her as well. Sydney is the type of little girl who for her birthday will go to a hospital and visit a bunch of sick people instead of receiving abunch of gifts. She may just be little, but she can do so much.

Demi Lovato

My idol is Demi Lovato. Whenever I tell people that though they always look at me weird. "Why Demi Lovato?" they ask me. It started with her being on Barney. Yes, Barney. She had always wanted to be a singer/actor so after that she was on Sonny with a Chance, Camp Rock, Camp Rock 2, Saved By The Bell, and many more. Things started getting bad though when she started receiving a lot of hate from fans. Well so everybody thought. It had actually been going on for awhile, but it really hit home once she had been on Disney for a while and her abusive dad tried coming back into the picture. She started cutting, drinking, drugs, and anything else that would "help the pain go away". She finally went to rehab and now she isn't afraid to talk about what happened because she wants teen girls to know they are beautiful know matter what anyone says. She has come so much farther now than before when she did let what people say about her get to her.

I Broke Into a Gas Station

Over the weekend my friends and I may have broken into a gas station and got put in jail until our parents bailed us out. Now the hard part, explaining why we did it. The problem is it was for a perfectly good reason. Lately someone has been breaking into gas stations all over town and stealing every piece of chocolate! Me and my friends of been studying the patterns of the burglaries and figured out which gas station they were going to next. Our plan was to sneak into the gas station and wait for the burglars to come. After that we would restrain them until the police got there, arrested them, and we would get  awards for saving the town and free gas and candy for the rest of our lives. Well, turns out the police had been tracking the robberies too and were waiting at the scene. They mistook us for the bad guys. They wouldn't even listen to our cries of explanation about how we can't live in a town without any chocolate!

3rd Quarter Technology

This quarter in Technology I learned a lot of different things. One thing I learned is how to cite a picture. Another thing I learned is you can set your desktop background four different ways. There were some things I liked and some things i didn't like though along the way. One thing I didn't like is how distracting some people in the class are, it makes it kinda hard to work. One thing I did like though is that Mrs. DeBolt constantly had a stream of projects ready for us that were fun to do. There was never really a time where you were sitting there doing nothing unless you were waiting for the rest of the class to finish. This quarter I also became better at typing which is exciting for me because with our society nowadays that is going to be a very useful skill. This class has been very beneficial to me and I am glad I get to do it for another quarter.

Little Mix

Little Mix is a four person British girl group formed on the X-Factor 2011 and it includes Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pennock, and Jade Thirlwall. They have two hit singles called DNA and Wings. They have one album out entitled DNA. When they won the X-Factor they performed their first single entitiled Cannonball. Perrie is dating Zayn Malik from One Direction and that's how I know who they are. They originally auditioned as solo acts for the X-Factor, but were put together in a group because their voices weren't strong enough alone. At one point in the competition Perrie was told by one of the judges that because she has such a strong voice she should be the lead singer, but she refused. They are now the best of friends and are completely inseperable.

Third Element

My friends Bailey, Miranda, and I all really enjoy singing and would like to go farther than just singing in our rooms, so we decided to form a group and call it Third Element. There is one problem though, we are still singing in our rooms. We searched the web for a little bit and decided that it would be a good idea to try out for X-Factor. I mean that's where One Direction started and Little Mix. It could be our big break! You start out with auditioning in front of the producers which you can do live or online. If they approve you then go on to sing in front of the judges and that is the stuff you see on TV. Because the closest place to go to audition live in front of the producers is New Orleans, we decided to do it online. Basically you take a video of yourself singing and send it to the producers. We decided for the online audition we would sing Jesus Take The Wheel and live we are going to sing Wings two different genres to show that we can do slow and fast country and pop songs.

They Took Everything Except One Odd Thing

Over the weekend my family and I went on vacation. When we came back home we saw someone had broken into our house and taken everything from our couches to our toilet paper. Something they left though was my t-shirt from when I visited my older brother at college at Mizzou. While my parents were on the phone with the police I examined the shirt and tried to think of all of the reasons the burglars would leave that particular shirt. They could of dropped on their way out and were in too big of a hurry to pick it up or they left it their on purpose. Then it hit me: it was a clue. That one shirt would help me figure out who broke into our house and it would be the key to getting our stuff back. When I tried to tell the police officer, who came to my house, what my theory was she didn't believe me. I guess this is mystery is my responsibility.

Love.. Maybe Not

Taylor and Harry were strolling through the zoo in New York City when they bumped into each other at the giraffe area. They sat at the fountain and just wached the giraffes go along with their daily business and started getting to know each other. They soon started dating and some said it was true love others said they were not good for each other. Harry was madly in love with Taylor yet Taylor... well she didn't quite feel the same. While on vacation to the Virgin Islands they got in an argument and Taylor left immediately leaving Harry to party alone. Harry is doing OK now, but whenever Taylor is brought up he gets kind of depressed. As for Taylor, she writes songs about break ups, a lot, and she is said to be working on a new song dedicated to Mr. Harry. Let's just say these two souls just weren't meant to be.

Zayn Malik

Zayn Malik was 16 when he first auditioned for X-Factor. He is 1/5 from One Direction and he is 20 now. He is currently dating lead singer from group Little Mix Perrie Edwards. They are very happy together even though there have been rumors going around that he was cheating on her. He is the lead singer for One Direction even though on this album he didn't have very many solos. He is often called the bad boy and before One Direction he referred to himself as the Bradford Bad Boy.

Liam Payne

Liam Payne is 1/5 of One Direction. He auditioned for the X-Factor in 2008, but Simon told him he was 't ready and to come back again in a couple of years. In 2010 he auditioned for the X-Factor singing Cry Me A River, he then had the same journey as the other boys in getting put in the group. Liam likes girls with curly hair and green eyes and that is why a certain Danielle Peazer caught his eye. It was actually Harry (another member of the band) who had put them together. Self-Consciousness

Self-Consciousness is a very important issue among teens, especially nowadays wit our society. There is being too fat, too skinny, ugly, too short, too tall, etc. Teens shouldn't feel that they have to starve themselves to be as skinny as some of the celebrities out there. Teens see a picture of a model or their idol even and then look at themselves and see all of their "problems". One of the main one's is weight though. Just because you don't have a flat stomach, or you can't see your collar bones as well as others does not make you fat! It makes you unique. But sometimes, no matter how many times you tell someone that, they won't listen. It sometimes leads to cutting themselves, anorexia, bulimia, and even suicide. My friend last year  was bulimic because her dad's girlfriend called her fat. Think before you act. It could save some one's life.

Louis William Tomlinson auditioned for the X-Factor in 2010 when he was 18 singing Hey There Delilah. He was born on December 24 in Doncaster. He is now 21 and is dating his beautiful girlfriend for one year now Eleanor Calder. He is the funniest, loudest, and most daring one of all five of the boys from One Direction. He has three little sisters. His parents got a divorce when he was younger and he still has sa hard time dealing with it. The Memory I Would Bottle Up

If there was any memory I could bottle up and keep forever, it would be the firdt time I went to Six Flags. I was about 8 and my brother was about 6, but he was tall for his age, so he could ride most of the rides. We went with our parents and since it was the first time I had ever ridden a rollercoaster I was scared on just about all of them. The first ride we rods was American Thunder. Iremember riding it with my mom and screaming, "MOMMY!!" the entire time because I thought the ride was gonna break. I also remember riding Pandomonium. I was scared on that one because it was spinning so much and I couldnt see anything. Of course my dad was laughing at me for screaming and yelling again, but I seriously thought I was gonna die. It is safe to say that wasn't the funnest trip ever.

Harry Styles

Harry Styles is a member of One Direction. He was 16 when he auditioned for X-Factor in 2010. He is the youngest and is now 18. His birthday is February 1 and he was born in Holmes Chapel. His is very close to his mom and has a very close relationship with the oldest boy of te group Louis. He has really curly hair and is 5' 10". He dated Taylor Swift which over 75% of his fans weren't happy about. He lost a lot of his fans and his career started going downhill. He was also seen crying a lot and whenever Swift insulted his friends or his fans he defended her. He is usually teased abut his really slow accent. He talks slow and makes the words drawn out. Any exciting story he is telling immediately becomes boring. He is known for his curly hair and his love of cats. Did I mention he has a cat named Dusty. School on Veterans Day

The  fact that we have school on Veterans Day and not on Martin Luther King Day because we need to learn more about Veterans is ridiculous. It should be the otherme people are mourning the loss of someone they lost in the war, but they still have to go to school to learn about it. If anything we should be learning more about Martin Luther King Jr. We don't really know anything about him. We spend half of our school year in Social Studies learning about war heroes and veterans of war and we don't spend hardly anytime learning about someone who changed the history of America more than anyone. We have learned about the wars fpr as long as I can remember and maybe every other year we learn about Martin Luther King Jr. which should definitely change.

Taylor Swift recently broke up with yet another boyfriend, Harry Edward Styles. Swift is 23 and Styles is 18. I did not think they were good for each other when they started, but I had no control over that. Although Swift said mean things about Styles' friends and fans, they stayed together. They took a trip to the Virgin Islands and had a humongous fight which ended up with Swift catching the first flight back to America early. After they broke up she tweeted a lyric from her song, 'I Knew You Were Trouble' on Twitter: "...'til you put me down" After Swift left Styles spent the rest of the trip partying. Niall Horan

Niall was born on September 13 in Mullingar Ireland 19 years ago. HE auditioned for the X Factor in 2010, he was 17. He made it through to the next round, but after that was told he had to go home. About 20 minutes later he was called back on stage along with five other boys and they were old that they were gonna go through as a group. That was the start of British/Irish boy band One Direction. He has on older brother named Greg who is now 23. He has no other siblings and his parents are divorced. He is the only blond hair blue eyed boy in the group although he is a natural brunette. He has no girlfriend and says he would rather sleep than have a girlfriend right now. He eats a lot and everyone thinks he is the youngest even though he isn't. Some things to know about me are that I am a very fun person. I like to be wild and crazy, but I do have my limits. My favorite color is purple and I am the oldest of four kids. My best friend is Mailine, but we call each other best-friends-for-like-ever-wit-no-exceptions-what-so-ever and we do everything just about everything together. I am the first granddaughter on both sides of my family so I get three times the special treatment. I do very well in school, so my parents set very high expectations for me. it is a comforting thought that they believe that I can do great things, but I wish they wouldn't push me so hard.

Over the past year I have become a HUGE fan of a boy band called One Direction. I am very fond of the blond Irish one and my friends and  I even joke that we are married. (; There are 5 British boys and 1 Irish one. My parents call me obsessed all the time and I'm not. Although I did ask my brother's baseball coach if he could plan a tournament in Kansas the weekend that they were there. He said no though because we already had too much tournaments already planned. I even offered to  pay for gas, food, hotel, and tickets and my dad still said no!

I have a little computer experience, but I get bored really easily so it isn't one of my best classes. I am now a very good at typing though and I know how to make links and credit sources and things like that. I have learned the most in this technology class than any other technology classes that I have been in which is saying something because I had been in technology for 6 years before. I have a lot of fun in this class because of the different conversations we have. I learned a lot inn this class and I hope to learn a lot more.

I'm sorry I cannot help you. I will not tell anyone about this, but I am not going to give or get you anything that will get you out of prison. You are in there for a reason and if I helped you I could get in trouble as well. You do not deserve to be out of prison for what you did because you obviously are not any different than you were before. I would like to help you, honestly, but it isn't the right thing and I would not be able to live with myself if I did. I miss the old you. Unfortunately I'm never gonna see that again. You have physically and mentally hurt a lot of people and helping you isn't gonna make either one of us better people.
